Review: Murad Pore Extractor Pomegranate Mask

Short version: it is incredible.

This clay mask from Murad claims to reduce the appearance of pores. The star ingredients include lactic acid polishing beads to exfoliate away dead skin, volcanic clay to help draw out impurities in your pores, and pomegranate extract to leave you with your best glow. Normal, combination, and oily skin types should expect to see diminished shine, visibly reduced pores and clearer, smoother looking skin after just one use so I had to put it to the test.

If the sleek clinical packaging with pops of pink were any indication, this would be a mask experience that was both effective and enjoyable. After washing my face with a mild cream cleanser, I pat gently with a paper towel to leave skin damp (the paper towel thing is a tip I picked up from model babe Jasmine Tookes) and slathered on the pale pink concoction. The scent is light with a slight whiff of pomegranate, a quality that lends itself to the surprisingly smooth texture the mask - the beads I mentioned earlier feel barely-there.

The instructions say to "apply to areas prone to enlarged pores" which I don't necessarily have to begin with so I went for an all-over-the-face approach because why be good when you can be great, right? In an attempt to obey the rules at least a little bit, I did adhere to the 10 minute suggestion. You only need a thin layer and as it dries you don't get that tight, can't move your face feeling some clay masks give. Once my 10 minutes were up I wet my face with warm water to gently massage the mask in for max exfoliation.

The results were astounding. I actually had to rinse twice because I thought the product was still on my face, but no. After one use your skin feels hydrated, smooth, supple and looks like your imperfections have been blurred out in real life. A pleasant surprise from an already tried and true brand. I would recommend this mask for anyone looking to gradually shrink pores or smooth away dark spots. This mask is gentle enough to use 2-3 times a week so I can only imagine the results with consistent use!
